Former SRU secretary John Law dies aged 94

LONG-serving former secretary of the Scottish Rugby Union John Law has died, aged 94.

Mr Law was secretary of the SRU from 1954 to 1983. Initially he worked from an office in Coates Crescent, Edinburgh, before moving to Murrayfield Stadium in 1964. He was educated at Kelvinside Academy from 1921 to 1933, playing for the school's first XV as a lock forward, and then studied law at Glasgow University going into practice after graduation.

During the Second World War he served as a captain in the Highland Light Infantry.

The great loves of his life were his family and rugby and he was honoured for services to rugby by an OBE. He was also an elder at Craigsbank Parish Church in Corstorphine, Edinburgh, and is survived by his sons Ian and Millar, his daughters Janice and Amanda and his grandchildren Lara, Lucy, Alastair, Lily and Iris.
