Young Scots sink Welsh in opening Victory Shield tie

Scotland’s under-16 side got this season’s Sky Sports Victory Shield competition off to a winning start with a 2-0
victory against their Welsh counterparts at Pittodrie last night.

The first shot on goal came from Scotland, with a free-kick from Aberdeen’s Michael Kelly pushed over the bar by Luke Pilling, the resulting corner requiring clearance off the goalline after another shot by Kelly.

Scotland keeper Robbie McCrorie was also tested during the first half,
saving a free-kick from Harry Wilson, after he was brought down just outside the penalty box by Celtic’s Sam Wardrop, who received the first yellow card of the game just before half-time.

Scotland opened the scoring just three minutes into the second half, thanks to a header from captain Adam Hodge, who ten minutes later received a yellow card for a late challenge. Scotland kept up the attack, with Greg Kilty shooting wide just minutes later.

The second Scotland goal came on 62 minutes after Cardiff City player Lloyd Humphries lost possession, an Aidan Nesbitt pass finding Celtic forward
Ciaran Lafferty who converted the chance.

Scotland put the ball in the back of the net again after 66 minutes, but this time the goal was disallowed.

Lafferty had another attempt on goal minutes before the final whistle, this time cleared by Pilling.
