Yeovil and Brentford on their way to Wembley

The Somerset club, trailing Sheffield United 1-0 from the first leg of their semi-final, turned the tie by winning the return fixture 2-0 at Huish Park, though it took a header by Ed Upson just six minutes from full-time to seal their aggregate victory.

Manager Gary Johnson’s men had taken just five minutes to wipe out the Blades’ advantage when Upson’s through ball teed up Kevin Dawson.

The Irishman kept his cool before sliding his effort into the bottom corner.

Paddy Madden and James Hayter both missed chances to take Yeovil into the final, but that moment arrived when former Ipswich man Upson met Madden’s inviting right-wing cross with a lovely glancing header which dropped into the bottom corner to tee up a pitch invasion and send the Yeovil faithful wild.

It was an even more nerve-wracking day at Griffin Park for Brentford fans, as their team conceded a last-minute equaliser by Swindon before winning their tie 5-4 on penalties.

Following a 1-1 draw at the County Ground, the Bees seemed to be heading for Wembley when they led 3-2 in the dying seconds thanks to an Adam Rooney own goal and a Clayton Donaldson double, with Rooney and Joe Devera responding for the visitors.

As Brentford fans prepared to celebrate, however, Aden Flint rose to meet a corner by Gary Roberts and powered home a header five minutes into injury time.

Swindon were then reduced to ten men when Nathan Byrne was shown a second yellow for deliberate handball.

Extra time failed to provide a winner, though Swindon goalkeeper Wes Foderingham twice saved from Donaldson, and the rollercoaster match then went to penalties.

The shoot-out swung in Brentford’s favour when Miles Storey missed Swindon’s fourth spot-kick.

That left Adam Forshaw to hold his nerve and step up to score the winning spot-kick and send the Bees to Wembley.
