Wilson warming to Wick role with fine victory

HIGHLAND LEAGUE: Wick Academy underlined their title credentials and thwarted the hopes of visitors Fortmartine United of leapfrogging them into top spot with an excellent 3-1 win.

Wick, in rookie manager Barry Wilson’s third game in charge, went ahead after 14 minutes with a fine finish from striker Richard Macadie.

Gary Weir grabbed the second just after the half hour, but Formartine hit back through Daniel Park three minutes before the break.

Wick’s Lukasz Geruzel to smashed home the vital third after 75 minutes.

Cove Rangers stayed in hot pursuit of the leaders with an impressive 3-1 victory over league champions Forres Mechanics to move into second place.

Paul Emslie made the breakthrough for the hosts after 27 minutes and tucked away the second just four minutes later from the spot.

Kevin Duguid gave Forres hope with a reply after 70 minutes, but Jordan Leyden struck Cove’s clincher with 12 minutes left.
