That was the week that was for McQueenie

Easthouses Lily boss Dave McQueenie admitted after last week’s 2-1 defeat away to Hawick Royal Albert that it was the “worst game of football I have ever been involved with in my entire life!”

The previous week he had watched his side beat Preston Athletic, the First Division leaders, 3-1 and everything in the Easthouses camp was very positive. However, several call-offs including Danny Watson who took unwell on the bus going to Hawick meant that McQueenie, at 47-years-old, had to list himself as a substitute.

“We were brilliant against Preston and then we had this disaster against Hawick,” lamented McQueenie. “We had to make five changes and then in the first five minutes of the game we were awarded ten free kicks in a stop-start beginning to the match. We then had three players sent off, two of them for retaliating to horrendous challenges on them. I had to go on with 25 minutes to go and with us losing two-nil. We pulled a goal back then we had a trialist sent off when he was fouled on the edge of the Hawick penalty box and used some foul language. After the game I just said to the players that was a woeful game best forgotten so let’s just recover from it.

“Tomorrow we travel to meet Berwick Rangers Reserves who we drew 3-3 with at our place and it should be a good game on their big Shielfield Park.

“However, we have three players suspended – Ryan McQueenie, Neil Ferry and Euan Smith – while Jamie Shields is unavailable and both Scott Borthwick and David Arthur are doubtful,” McQueenie went on. “I’m just hoping that I don’t have to be a substitute again!”
