Tynecastle 1-2 Edinburgh City: Gair inspires City fightback

Tynecastle’s trialist keeper made two superb early saves from Gibson and Guthrie, while at the other end Stobie was at full stretch to tip away a vicious shot from Butler.

The home side opened the scoring four minutes from the interval when Brown broke free on the right and found the unmarked Jamie Butler, who lobbed Stobie from outside the box. In 65 minutes Stobie blocked a point-blank effort from Brown and six minutes later the City keeper brought down Butler in the box, redeeming himself by saving Butler’s spot-kick. Harrison was red-carded for dissent.

Inspired by captain Dougie Gair, City made a late fight-back. In 77 minutes Caddow headed a Ross effort off the line but two minutes later Gair scored with a short-range shot from a Ross header. Seven minutes from time Gair carved out an opening on the left and his cross was stabbed into the net by Andy Howat.
