Turner joins Pars with more signings to come

Dunfermline have completed the loan signing of Preston North End goalkeeper Iain Turner until the end of the season.

And East End Park chairman John Yorkston has promised that further reinforcements are on the way as the Pars seek to escape the SPL drop zone.

Turner becomes Jim McIntyre’s first signing of the January transfer window, and will provide much needed depth in the goalkeeping department after the club’s number one, Paul Gallacher, was ruled out for the season with a shoulder injury.

Chris Smith has deputised in the Pars’ last three outings, but was culpable for the 95th minute equaliser scored by Johnny Hayes in the weekend’s 1-1 draw with Inverness in the Scottish Cup.

Turner could be in line to make his debut in Saturday’s relegation clash against Hibs.

Yorkston said: “We are delighted to get a player of Iain’s pedigree. This is someone who has played for Everton and has been in Scotland squads.

“It’s just the first signing. I would ask the fans to be patient because we are working very hard to get further players in.

“The manager is clear in what he wants, and we are looking at a very good standard of player.”
