Done deals in Scotland include Ryan Stevenson returning to Hearts on a three-year deal. More transfers are expected later today.

01.09am: Many thanks for sticking with us, that’s us off for the night.

01.08am: It’s official - David Templeton has left Hearts to sign for Rangers. The 23-year-old’s departure has been confirmed on Hearts’ official website. They also confirm Rangers’ bid for Ryan McGowan, which the club say the player turned down.

01.00am: Templeton situation still remains unclear - the SFA are reported to have received the necessary paperwork before the midnight deadline, but it is understood that a computer crash at the SFL has left everyone, including us, in the dark. Which seems appropriate, given the hour.

00.08am: ...Andthat’s it, all windows shut now. Still no official word on Templeton/Rangers.

23.16pm: Sean O’Hanlon and Hibs have parted company, leaving the defender a free agent. Still no word on the Rangers/Templeton deal, but rumour has it that Ryan McGowan has turned his back on a move to Ibrox.

23.04pm: Celtic have managed to squeeze in one more new recruit - Slovakian shotstopper Lubos Kamenar from Ligue 1 side Nantes.

23.00pm: Quite a few updates to give you in the last hour. Ryan McGivern has signed for Hibs on loan from Manchester City. Meanwhile, Livingston have added 22-year-old Spanish defender Jesus Garcia Tena to their ranks on a one-year contract. There won’t be anymore SPL transfers happening - the window closes at 11pm sharp - but the SFL window remains open for another hour, meaning that Rangers may yet have an announcement to make regarding David Templeton...

21.49pm: Another late arrival at Celtic. Getafe striker Miku has arrived at Parkhead on season-long loan, his club have confirmed.

21.47pm: Two more transfers confirmed: Callum Booth leaves Hibs for Livingston - that’s a one-year loan - and Matthew Kennedy joins Everton on a permanent deal from Kilmarnock for a nominal fee.

21.28pm: Hearts have confirmed that they have given Templeton permission to speak to Rangers over a transfer, though personal terms have yet to be agreed, and then there’s a medical to get through as well.

21.11pm: Whispers on Twitter suggest that David Templeton is in talks at Murray Park. More concrete is the news that Carlos Bocanegra has left Rangers to join Racing Santander on a one-year loan.

20.43pm: Sean Higgins has been snapped up by Falkirk. He was released by St Johnstone only a matter of hours ago - they’ve certainly moved quickly.

19.49pm: Spanish media reporting Miku Fedor has completed a move to Celtic

6.45pm: Celtic have reportedly completed the signing of Efe Ambrose, a move that has been mentioned, oh, about 20 times already today.

6.30pm: Right - quick update on the SPL teams:

Aberdeen - have confirmed no transfer business will be undertaken tonight.

Celtic - Efe Ambrose is currently at Celtic Park. Club is also looking to sign Belgian striker Marvin Ogunjimi.

Dundee - looking to bring in a defender with SPL experience - but will abandon deal if it can’t be completed tonight.

Dundee Utd - dismissed joint offer of £1.25 million from Huddersfield for Johnny Russell and Gary MacKay-Steven as an ‘insult.’

Hearts - have resigned Ryan Stevenson on a three-year deal. David Templeton the subject of interest from Rangers; Ryan McGowan has said he wants to stay at Tynecastle.

Hibs - reported to have signed Manchester City defender Ryan McGivern on a season-long loan deal, and Tom Taiwo on a two-year deal. Club is yet to ratify both deals. Club have also loaned out Jordon Forster and Scott Smith to East Fife.

Inverness CT - signed Arsenal youngster Phil Roberts yesterday. Still looking to add a defender before the window shuts.

Kilmarnock - have dismissed ‘derisory’ £250,000 offer from Everton for striker Michael Kennedy.

Motherwell - club have confirmed that no signings will occur.

Ross County - no new signings. Steven Craig loaned to Partick Thistle.

St Johnstone - have released Sean Higgins

St Mirren - Newcastle defender Paul Dummett has joined St Mirren. Confirmed to be final summer signing for Paisley club.

6.05pm: Dundee United have dismissed a £1.25 million joint offer for Johnny Russell and Gary Mackay-Steven as an ‘insult.’ Meanwhile, Ryan McGowan has reiterated his desire to stay at Tynecastle. Meanwhile, Rangers are continuing talks with Hearts winger David Templeton.

5.52pm: Nigerian defender Efe Ambrose has arrived at Celtic ahead of his proposed move to the club.

5.48pm: We are expecting most clubs to confirm any deals that have taken place later tonight. SPL clubs can sign players up until 11pm, whilst the SFL have until midnight.

5.45pm: It’s beginning to look like Celtic may sign Belgian striker Marvin Ogunjimi. The forward is on loan from Real Mallorca at Standard Liege, but it is believed that the clubs have an agreement that will release Ogunjimi from the loan deal and allow him to sign for Celtic on a permanent basis.

5.35pm: The deadline for registering players has been and gone, but we expect there will be more activity in Scotland. Down south, Tottenham are still in talks with Hugo Lloris and Joao Moutinho, whilst Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has signed for Italian cracks Juventus. Goalkeeper Richard Wright has signed for Manchester City whilst Swansea City have broken their record transfer fee to sign Valencia’s Pablo Hernandez for £5.55 million.

4.56pm: News from Glasgow is that Rangers have not given up the chase for Hearts duo Ryan McGowan and David Templeton, whilst Celtic are reported to have put in a bid for Braga winner Helder Barbosa, and have been linked with Belgian striker Marvin Ogunjimi.

4.53pm: Sky Sports reporting that Hibs have signed Manchester City left back Ryan McGivern on a season-long loan and former Carlisle midfielder Tom Taiwo on a two-year deal. The transfers are still to be confirmed by the Easter Road side however.

4.46pm: Hearts are due back in Edinburgh within the hour - could there be more transfer movement from 6.00pm at Tynecastle?

This week’s Inside Sport podcast is online now, covering Scottish clubs in Europe and transfer deadline day. Download it now.

4.30pm: Sean Higgins has signed for Falkirk, after negotiating a release from St Johnstone earlier today.

4.22pm: Just over half an hour remaining for clubs to sign and register players for this weekend. Likely to be a few players arriving after the 5pm registration time though.

4.17pm: Neil Lennon is calming things down on Twitter after Celtic knocked back a bid from Huddersfield for Anthony Stokes - and has tweeted: ‘There is a lot of panic on here today....deep breaths.’ Sage advice.

4.12pm: Various media sources reporting that Hibs are hopeful of bringing in at least two players by the deadline. Nothing confirmed yet though, despite the rumours about McGivern and Taiwo, including reports from down south. Stay tuned.

4.05pm: Barry Anderson tweets: ‘Based on the tweets I’ve received today, Ryan Stevenson might have to work a bit to win Hearts fans over after returning to Tynecastle....’

3.55pm: No news as yet on Celtic’s move for Efe Ambrose. Manchester United forward Nani has been linked with Russian side Zenit St Petersburg.

3.50pm: Tom English has commented on Huddersfield’s enquiries about Anthony Stokes: ‘Cheeky little move by Huddersfield to get [Anthony] Stokes. No point in Celtic selling him for beer money. He’s good for 20 goals every season.’

3.44pm: Brazilian defender Maicon is now a Manchester City player. Hibernian appear to have all but signed City left back Ryan McGivern on a season-long loan. Strong rumours about former Carlisle midfielder Tom Taiwo joining up at Easter Road, and we hear Hugo Lloris has arrived at Tottenham for talks.

Dimitar Berbatov and Kieran Richardson are now Fulham players, and Kyle Hutton has rubbished rumours that he is set to leave Ibrox, tweeting ‘For those that have been asking I will not be leaving Rangers #fitandready’.

3.25pm: Movement at Ibrox, as Australian forward Francesco Stella is expected to sign a deal pending a medical.

3.06pm: We’ll have an update on confirmed ins and outs from the SPL shortly - the ball is well and truly rolling now.

A Spanish radio station are reporting that Spurs have put in a £12.5 million bid plus add-ons for Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente and are still chasing French ‘keeper Hugo Lloris; Javi Garcia has all but signed for Manchester City and Stephane M’Bia looks set to be the next signing at Loftus Road for QPR.

3.00pm: Huddersfield Town have had a bid for Celtic striker Anthony Stokes knocked back as they seek to replace Jordan Rhodes. Maurice Edu has finalised his move to Stoke City, joining up with former Ibrox team mate Charlie Adam and Rafael Van der Vaart has completed his move to Hamburg. Meanwhile, Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz is undergoing a medical with Spanish side Malaga.

2.55pm: That ‘Paddy McCourt to Hibs’ rumour has been quashed with great gusto. Can’t say we’re too surprised.

2.40pm: St Johnstone have released Sean Higgins from his contract, which clears the way for the striker to sign for an SFL club. It’s still quiet at Ibrox; we’ve had no updates from Celtic bar the possible move for Efe Ambrose (although manager Neil Lennon has tweeted ‘Phone is busy today’ - make what you will of that) - and not much confirmed movement elsewhere. Ryan Stevenson has rejoined Hearts, Hibs are in talks with Manchester City youngster Ryan McGivern whilst Callum Booth looks set to leave on loan and that’s about it. We’re expecting a flurry of movement as the afternoon draws on, however.

2.30pm: We’re hearing that signing #2 for Manchester City might be on the way - there are reports that the club have agreed a £24 million fee for Benfica midfielder Javi Garcia. Meanwhile, Inter Milan’s Brazilian international Maicon has been very heavily linked with a move to Eastlands. That’s three out of the five signings Mancini mentioned.

2.25pm: Ryan Stevenson to Hearts is the first (major) Scottish signing, and as we pointed out earlier, clubs have just over two and a half hours to register players in time to play this weekend. Bryan Oviedo’s move to Everton has also been confirmed. The Goodison Park side were awaiting international clearance for the Costa Rican.

2.17pm: For anyone unsure, the Scottish deadline is midnight, with the SPL closing their window an hour earlier at 11pm. Players must be fully registered by 5pm to be eligible to play this weekend.

2.13pm: Ryan Stevenson confirmed to have signed a three-year deal with Hearts.

2.04pm: Things are really getting underway now. Hibs left-sided defender Callum Booth looks set to join Livingston on loan, whilst there are (believe it or not) rumours of Paddy McCourt heading to Easter Road from Celtic. We’ll keep you posted...

2.01pm: Tottenham look set to splash out on Joao Moutinho, with the Portuguese international set to sign for a club record £22 million. And they’re still keeping tabs on Fernando Llorente and France international goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. How much did they sell Luka Modric for again...?

1.51pm: A couple of big moves down south, which Arsenal’s Park Chu-Young and Tottenham’s Giovani dos Santos set to move to Spanish sides Celta Vigo and Real Mallorca respectively.

1.25pm: Celtic are expected to make just the one signing, with Nigerian centre back Efe Ambrose on the brink of a £1.5 million move from Israeli side FC Ashdod.

Meanwhile, on the other side of Glasgow, Rangers may have hit a snag in their attempts to make multiple signings before their transfer embargo kicks in, as the club are only permitted to have a certain number of senior players in the squad. An SFL rule dictates that member clubs cannot register more than 22 players over the age of 21, in a move designed to encourage youth development. Ally McCoist was hopeful of adding six senior players today, but this red tape - and the fact that Steven Naismith, Kyle Lafferty, Steven Whittaker and Allan McGregor are all still registered with the club despite moving on as Rangers attempt to win transfer fees for them - could scupper McCoist’s plans.

12.50pm: Charlie Adam has finalised his move to Stoke City. The midfielder has signed a four-year deal at the Britannia Stadium.

12.46pm: John McGlynn doesn’t believe Ryan Stevenson rejoining Hearts will be a problem for the fans. In case you’ve forgotten, Stevenson - who scored 11 goals in 67 appearances - refused to play for Hearts, taking a stand over delayed wage payments. Would any Hearts fans welcome him back? Let us know in the comments below.

12.40pm: Barry Anderson has tweeted: ‘John McGlynn not expecting more incomings at Hearts apart from Ryan Stevenson, for those asking.’ So now you know.

12.30pm: It’s looking unlikely that St Johnstone will add to their squad today. We should also have a roundup of Scottish transfer news in the next few minutes.

12.25pm: Scott Sinclair has sealed his move from Swansea City to Manchester City, with a fee believed to be in the region of £6.2 million. That’s one of five signings Roberto Mancini is hoping to make today.

12.20pm: We’re expecting any Scottish deals to happen later on in the day, which is why there isn’t that much movement just yet. But thanks to all of you who have been in touch to tell us that Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mario Balotelli et al have been seen wandering around the St James’ Centre. We’ll keep you posted...

12.15pm: Tom English has joined in the ‘will he, won’t he’ saga involving Clint Dempsey, and has tweeted ‘Delighted to see that Clint Dempsey has blown the move to Aston Villa out of the water. Anfield is the best place for you Clint. Make my day.’

With Aston Villa said to have dropped their interest, your day may well be made Tom - but Liverpool are still to comment on the situation. Watch this space.

12.11pm: Tottenham Hotspur’s Dutch midfielder Rafael Van der Vaart has now arrived in Germany ahead of his projected move to Hamburg SV.

11.58am: Still very little movement at Ibrox, but we expect a few loan deals from England may be on the cards.

11.45am: Swindon Town and Birmingham City have agreed a deal that sees ex-Celtic defender Paul Caddis heading to St Andrews, with former Inverness CT striker Adam Rooney heading in the opposite direction. Caddis recently fell out with Swindon boss Paolo di Canio.

Still relatively quiet on the Scottish front, with Pat Fenlon hoping to bring in at least two players before the window slams shut and Hearts looking to bolster their strikeforce.

11.40am: Bad news for any Gunners out there as Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has dropped a heavy hint that there is unlikely to be a flurry of transfer activity at the Emirates, commenting that players returning from injury are like new signings.

11.34am: Vladimir Romanov has told the Evening News that he is prepared to sell David Templeton. Cue feverish discussions at Ibrox perhaps? Or will the highly-rated Templeton go elsewhere?

Anyone remember Pawel Brozek? The Polish striker is set to sign a loan deal with lower-league Spanish side Recreativo Huelva, pending a medical.

11.20am: Hearts appear close to finalising the signing of Ryan Stevenson, and are also monitoring ex-St Johnstone forward Cillian Sheridan.

11.10am: Stoke City have agreed a fee with Liverpool for Scotland midfielder Charlie Adam, whilst St Johnstone midfielder Ricky McIntosh has gone to Montrose on loan.

11.05am: Everton are rumoured to be weighing up an improved offer for Kilmarnock’s Matthew Kennedy after Kenny Shiels dismissed the Toffees’ original offer of £250,000. Meanwhile, free agent Alessandro Del Piero appears to be signing for Australian side FC Sydney, despite reported interest from Celtic.

11.02am: AC Milan have agreed a deal with Manchester City to sign Dutch midfielder Nigel De Jong.

10:55am: Hibs have confirmed that defenders Jordon Forster and Scott Smith have joined East Fife on loan.

10.35am: Ipswich striker Ryan Stevenson is currently undergoing a medical at Hearts, according to Evening News sports writer Barry Anderson, whilst across the city Hibs are in talks with Manchester City left back Ryan McGivern. McGivern has only made one substitute appearance for the EPL champions, and is keen to increase his chances of first-team football.

Celtic striker Daryl Murphy has returned to Ipswich on a season-long loan deal.

Plenty of big moves being thrashed out down south, with Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson hinting that Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov may end up back at Tottenham despite being heavily-linked with Fulham. Liverpool striker Andy Carroll has joined West Ham on a 12-month loan deal, whilst Everton look set to finalise a move for FC Copenhagen full-back Bryan Oviedo. Also looking likely that Charlie Adam will move to Stoke City from Liverpool whilst Aston Villa target Clint Dempsey has expressed a wish to move to Anfield, rather than Villa Park.

Below is a round-up of what the morning papers think will happen today. Will they be right come midnight?
