The 26-year-old, who has five caps, is aiming to secure his place in the Holland squad for the 2010 World Cup.

He began his career at FC Utrecht before joining FC Twente in 2007.

He moved to Bayern last summer.

Braafheid refused to rule out a permanent summer switch and revealed he jumped at the chance to sign for Celtic.

"This weekend I got a phone call from my father telling me that Celtic were interested," the Holland left-back said.

"He was saying 'take your time and think about it' but I knew for sure I wanted to make this step."

Celtic earlier completed the signings of Fulham striker Diomansy Kamara and Motherwell teenager Paul Slane, and Mowbray revealed there could be more activity before the midnight deadline with chief executive Peter Lawwell expected to do more business.

"I know Peter is working hard behind the scenes," the Celtic manager said.

And he denied that McDonald would definitely be departing today.

"There are lots of components that need to come together for that to happen," he said. "As far as I know, Scott is still very much a Celtic player."
