Third division roundup: Gordon gives Alloa a precious point in chase to top as Coyne’s lob sinks leaders

A roundup of yesterday’s action from the Scottish Third Division

East Stirlingshire 1 - 0 Annan Athletic

Shire blew a chance to open the scoring in the 35th minute as Bradley Coyne’s penalty was saved by Craig Summersgill. But three minutes later Coyne made amends, lobbing Summersgill for a surprise win over the Third Division leaders.

Montrose 1 - 1 Alloa Athletic

Alloa moved to within a point of Annan after rescuing a draw at Montrose. Scott Johnstone headed Montrose into a 15th-minute lead but Ben Gordon headed the leveller in the 79th minute after good work from Ryan McCord.

Queen’s Park 1 - 1 Peterhead

The visitors took a deserved lead when Rory McAllister connected emphatically with Ryan Strachan’s cross in the 48th minute.

With eight minutes remaining, Paul McGinn set up David Murray for a scarcely-deserved equaliser.

Berwick Rangers 0 - 2 Clyde

John Sweeney gave the visitors a 25th-minute lead from the penalty spot after reckless Berwick defending, and Liam Cusack clinically converted Michael Oliver’s tempting cross to seal the points with four minutes remaining.

Elgin City 1 - 1 Stranraer

The home side took an early lead through Paul Millar’s powerful ninth-minute header from a Graeme Beveridge centre.

Stranraer fought back, though, and rescued a point courtesy of Stephen Stirling’s 63rd-minute strike.
