Third Division: Peterhead maintain their impressive start by swatting aside Clyde

PETERHEAD followed up their impressive opening-day draw at home to Rangers with a 2-0 win over Clyde in a game staged at Alloa’s Recreation Park due to the installation of the new artificial surface at Broadwood not yet having been completed.

Robbie Winters opened the scoring on 20 minutes with a lob from 25 yards out and ten minutes later Rory McAllister netted a penalty.

Balmoor manager Jim McInally said: “It was important that we showed we could handle the hype of playing Rangers one week and getting back to normal the next. We did that.”

Queen’s Park salvaged a 2-2 draw at home to Montrose despite trailing 2-0 with four minutes left. Scott Johnston and Lloyd Young had the visitors in command but Jamie Longworth pulled one back before Craig Smith scrambled a leveller.

Elgin came from behind to defeat Stirling Albion 3-1 at Borough Briggs. Scott Davidson fired the Binos in front after four minutes, but Craig Gunn, Mark Nicolson and Dennis Wyness won it for the hosts. Annan also came from behind to defeat 
Berwick Rangers 3-2 at Galabank, with Harry Cairney’s men trailing at half time by two goals.

Phil Addision capitalised on a poor clearance from goalkeeper Alex Mitchell to open the scoring and home captain Scott Chaplain then knocked a corner into his own net. But summer signing Chaplain was behind the revival that saw the game won with three goals in a five-minute spell which began when the visiting Chris Townsley was judged to have handled an Ally Love cross. Chaplain netted from the resultant penalty before levelling when he headed home an Ally Love cross and the duo combined again to win the game, with Love slotting home from close range.
