Third Division: High-flying Wasps abuzz after four-goal triumph

Alloa Athletic made it 12 games in a row without defeat and secured their fourth consecutive victory by beating Stranraer 4-0 at Stair Park.

Midfielder Mark Docherty opened the scoring on 25 minutes, while manager Paul Hartley’s decision to extend the loan deal of St Johnstone’s Stephen May paid off with a goal from the edge of the penalty box five minutes from half-time.

Steven Masterton lobbed home a third on the hour mark, and May delivered the coup de grace on 70 minutes.

The biggest challengers to the table-topping Clackmannanshire side could be Queen’s Park, who continued their fine form with a 3-2 win over Annan.

The Galabank men took an early lead through David Winters. The Spiders levelled when Martin McBride netted a spot-kick after Sean Burns had his jersey pulled.

McBride netted a second penalty early in the second half after Ian Watt had been fouled, and Craig Smith’s solo effort had the three points secured before Sean O’Connor pulled a goal back in injury time.

Elgin City put last weekend’s 6-0 defeat by Queen’s Park behind them with a 4-0 win over Berwick. Paul Millar and Archie MacPhee had the home side two up before half-time, while Stuart Leslie and Millar finished the Borderers off in the second half.

Frustration got the better of the visiting Kevin McDonald and he was dismissed for a crude challenge on MacPhee.

Peterhead beat hosts Clyde 1-0 thanks to a Martin Bavidge header while bottom side East Stirling had a morale-boosting 3-1 success over Montrose with an Alex Lurinsky double. Kevin Turner nodded in a third, while Jamie Winter scored a late consolation from the penalty spot.
