Third Division: Berwick hang on for win at Shire

Berwick Rangers notched their first away win of the season when they beat East Stirlingshire 1-0 at Ochilview yesterday.

The only goal came midway through the first half when Lee Currie crossed from the left and on-loan Livingston winger Ross Gray provided the finishing touch from six yards out.

It turned into a backs-to-the-wall performance for the
Borderers in the second half as they battled to keep their lead, with Steve Notman not helping their cause when he was sent off just after the hour mark after picking up two yellow cards in rapid succession.

Montrose are enjoying their best season in years and on Saturday they climbed into a play-off position as a result of their 2-0 win over Peterhead at Links Park. Both goals came in the opening 15 minutes, with Garry Wood slotting home the first before setting up Terry Masson for the second as Stuart Garden’s men made it five unbeaten.

Annan lost their unbeaten home record and former player Bryan Gilfillan did most of the damage, scoring twice as Clyde won 3-1 at Galabank.

Gilfillan nodded in a Sean Fitzharris cross before David Marsh made it 2-0 with 16 minutes played. Marshwas dismissed after giving away a penalty for fouling Keiran McGachie, but the spot-kick was missed by Graeme Ramage.

It was ten-a-side before half time, with Annan’s Steven Swinglehurst given his marching orders for a second bookable offence, and Gilfillan added a third just after the break.

Sub Scott Chaplain scored a late penalty to give Annan a measure of consolation.

Clyde manager Jim Duffy said: “There were some top-class performances from my players.”
