Aston Villa have reportedly given the green light to Carlos Cuellar's rumoured return to Rangers. The English Premier League side agreed to sell after the Ibrox club raised their bid to 2million. But despite agreement between the clubs, everything now depends on the Spaniard's willingness to take a severe cut in wages. (Daily Record)

• Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra could enter into talks over a new contract, according to director of football Gordon Smith. The Algeria international is entering the final year of his contract and had been thought to be keen to leave Ibrox. (The Scotsman)
