Textile firm Fishers Services sells cleanroom arm

SCOTTISH textile services company Fishers Services has sold its specialist cleanroom laundry business.

The Livingston-based operation, which employs 46 people, has been acquired by Lincolnshire-based Fenland Laundries for an undisclosed sum.

Fishers, which is headquartered in Cupar and cleans, irons and delivers more than two million items a week, said the disposal was in line with its strategy of focusing on the hospitality sector in Scotland and the north of England. All employees in the cleanroom business will transfer over to Fenland Laundries as part of the sale process and the Livingston facility will be retained and become a Scottish hub for Fenland.

Michael Jones, Fishers’ managing director, said: “The Livingston team has been a credit to Fishers and I know they will go on to even greater success as part of Fenland Laundries, who share the same values as we do.

“Fishers is the market leading textile rental and commercial laundry company in Scotland and the north of England and we plan to concentrate on this as our area of expertise. We have a number of innovations in the pipeline for our core business and we look forward to unveiling these over the coming months.”

Fenland Laundries specialises in cleanroom laundry services for the pharmaceutical, healthcare and manufacturing sectors. The deal is subject to clearance by competition officials.

Fishers saw turnover dip £1 million to £34.8m last year after it said it withdrew from some tenders where price levels were “insufficient to maintain its standards of service and investment”.
