Terry Butcher hopes Williams can pass SPL exam

INVERNESS Caledonian Thistle manager Terry Butcher is hoping that his new signing, Danny Williams, can make the transition from school classroom to full-time football just like Gary Warren.

Caley Thistle have agreed a fee with English non-league club Kendal Town for the winger, who has been on loan at Chester City.

Williams will bade farewell to his career in teaching to make the leap to the SPL.

Butcher went down a similar route last summer when he signed Warren from Conference side Newport County and the defender has become an integral part of the Inverness side that remains in the driving seat for Europa League football next season.

Butcher said: “We talked to Kendal and put in an offer, which was accepted.

“Danny is a player we have monitored and watched at Chester and he has done very well.

“He is 24 and a teacher, and will be following Gary Warren, who was in the same line of work before moving here. He will be moving from a part-time to a full-time club.

“We try to pick out gems and if we get the same success with Danny as we have with Gary then I will be very happy.

“Players come here and settle very quickly into the club and into the dressing room.

“He fits the mould of what we want and he has a good chance.”
