Hide AdIn seven league games, Tranent have dropped just two points and have opened up a five-point gap on second-placed Falkirk.
“We have taken on board what Sauchie did when they won the South Division title last season,” added Shields. “They were able to get a lot of points before the winter shutdown and we are aiming to do the same.
“We’ve probably got the youngest squad in the league but the club is buzzing at the moment, which is great to see.”
