Tam: It’s now open season on Tranent

TAM SHIELDS has warned his Tranent table-toppers to expect teams to have them in their sights now, starting with Stoneyburn when they visit Forrester Park tomorrow (2.00pm kick-off).

“We’re delighted to be sitting at the top of the league, but that brings its own challenges as teams will be lifted when they play us,” he said.

“We just need to keep doing what we have done to get us in this position. We’ve got a bunch of good, honest lads, having got rid of some of the ‘big-time Charlies’ who were here last season.”

In seven league games, Tranent have dropped just two points and have opened up a five-point gap on second-placed Falkirk.

“We have taken on board what Sauchie did when they won the South Division title last season,” added Shields. “They were able to get a lot of points before the winter shutdown and we are aiming to do the same.

“We’ve probably got the youngest squad in the league but the club is buzzing at the moment, which is great to see.”

Edinburgh United are also at home, against Dunbar, while Spartans and Dalkeith are away to Blackburn and West Calder respectively.
