McCall brought in Lionel Ainsworth on loan from Rotherham last season to good effect - the winger hit 11 goals and set up nine more and signed a one-year contract at Fir Park this summer.

Motherwell previously provided a platform for England goalkeeper John Ruddy and Middlesbrough striker Lukas Jutkiewicz to win big-money moves from Everton.

And McCall, who has brought in goalkeeper Dan Twardzik and midfielder Josh Law so far this summer, is seeking loan players to replace the likes of James McFadden, Henri Anier and Shaun Hutchinson.

He told Sky Sports News: “The players we’ll be looking to bring in will probably be loans from clubs down in England, maybe Championship, maybe Premiership. We’ll hopefully get a couple of favours.

“We have been fortunate over the seasons, people we have brought in have gone on to better things.

“We’re hoping managers at other clubs see Motherwell as a good club to help progress young players’ careers.”
