Strollers repel late Lily surge

Two first-half goals in the space of a minute was enough for Civil Service Strollers, who held off a late fightback from Easthouses to progress to the second round of the King Cup.

The visitors were on the front foot from the first whistle with Rennie striking the crossbar after just two minutes. However, Easthouses squandered a golden chance to take the lead in the 28th minute but Watson hesitated on the ball allowing the goalkeeper to clear.

Strollers took the lead in the 36th minute when Dunn’s cross fell to Craig Anderson, who tucked the ball away from ten yards out. Paul Lynch then fired a second in off the crossbar in the very next passage of play.

Graham Young pulled a goal back for the home side in the 79th minute and Lily then had a hat trick of chances to force an equaliser, especially when Young sent Smith in one-on-one with Burnside in the 88th minute, but failed to do so.
