The 41-year-old is expected to take over at Highbury after Graham Alexander, another former Scotland international, was sacked six days ago following a 5-1 loss at Gillingham.

Pressley has managed in Sky Bet League One before with Coventry but was dismissed from that post after his 100th game in charge in February with the Sky Blues in the relegation zone.

Prior to his stint in the midlands, the ex-Dundee United, Hearts and Celtic defender was in charge of Falkirk for three seasons having finished his playing career with the Bairns.

Fleetwood are currently 23rd in the third tier after Alexander led them to a top-10 finish in the club’s maiden campaign in League One last term.
