The forward has appeared for five clubs in ten years from the North East of England to the south of France, picking up respectable, if unspectacular, goal tallies in the process.

Here’s where the forward has played between his exit at Easter Road and his potential return to Scotland.

Burnley to Wolves

Fletcher joined Premier League outfit Burnley in 2009 for a fee of £3m.

In his one season at Turf Moor, Fletcher bagged eight goals in 35 appearances, scooping up the Burnley Players' Player of the year award.

Despite his attacking efforts, Burnley were relegated to the Championship and Fletcher was sold just one year into his four-year contract.

Wolves signed the forward for a fee of £6.5m, then a club record.

He would score 22 league goals in two Premier League seasons at the Molineux club.

Sunderland and Marseille loan

Following Wolves’ relegation to the Championship, Fletcher’s services were obtained by Sunderland, who reportedly spent £12m on the forward.

The striker started off impressively, winning a Premier League Player of the Month in September of the 2012/2013 season, but he ultimately went onto suffering a season-ending injury while on duty with Scotland.

The Scotland forward would manage just 23 goals in 94 appearances over four years, 11 of which came in his first season.

In 2015 Fletcher was shipped out on loan to French club Marseille scoring three times in 13 appearances.

Sheffield Wednesday

Fletcher’s most recent spell came at Sheffield Wednesday where he spent four seasons.

Signed on a free transfer, the former Hibs man would enjoy moderate success at the Hillsborough club racking up 36 goals in 124 league appearances.

In the 2016/2017 season he helped the Owls to a play-off appearance, scoring in the semi-finals against Huddersfield Town. Wednesday would ultimately lose the tie.

The forward decided against signing a new contract with the club in June.
