St Mirren unveil new away strip

IF THE glorious sunshine beating down over Scotland didn’t shake St Mirren supporters from the sluggishness of a Tuesday afternoon then one look at the club’s 2014/15 away top will certainly have done the trick.

New shirt makers Cabrini – a sportswear brand owned and sold exclusively by JD Sports – have decided to dress up Paisley’s finest using a somewhat unorthodox style that has the classic St Mirren style breaking through the chest area of a full strip otherwise dominated by a striking yellow colour.

Social media outlets have been awash with supporters of other clubs chuckling away at the startling design while several bemused Buddies fans have lined up to call it “the worst strip in their history” on the independent fans forum ‘Black and White Army’.

Cabrini have been designing football strips since 2008 for several clubs north and south of the border and have a history of innovation. They were the manufacturers behind Oldham’s infamous one-off pink kit that was used by the English club as a means of promoting cancer research.

They have also designed Ross County’s on-field attire for the forthcoming campaign and, while St Mirren fans are cursing the arrangement, the Staggies were pleased with the slick and modern look provided by Cabrini.
