St Mirren clear out sees 11 players released

Murray is having to rebuild at St Mirren but he believes he has a good group of young players

Out-of-contract winger Gregor Wylde used his Twitter account on Monday to confirm he has left the Buddies after their relegation from the Scottish Premiership.

And the former Rangers, Bolton and Aberdeen wideman follows 10 others who have been allowed to leave.

Former interim boss Gary Teale announced last week he was quitting Saints after being overlooked for the job following his unsuccessful attempt to keep the club in the top flight.

Also departing are goalkeeper Marian Kello, defenders Victor Genev and Jeroen Tesselaar and striker Yoann Arquin.

Forward James Dayton has returned to parent club Oldham, while on-loan Tottenham midfielder Emmanuel Sonupe is heading back to White Hart Lane.

And youngsters Mark Williams, Mo Yaqub and Adam Brown are also looking for new clubs after their deals were allowed to expire.

Skipper Steven Thompson is also out of contract but will discuss his future with Murray once he returns from holiday, as will midfielder Alan Gow.

Highly-rated midfielder John McGinn is another whose deal has ended but Murray has not given up hope of persuading the 20-year-old to pen a fresh agreement.

However, if he decides to move on, Saints will be due around £270,000 in compensation.

Winger Kieran Sadlier - who spent the second half of last season on loan from West Ham - has been invited back to Paisley for pre-season training, as has youngster Thomas Reilly, whose contract is also up.

Wylde quit Pittodrie in January 2014 after declaring he wanted to be nearer to his parents’ Glasgow home.

But despite making just 19 starts in his 18-month stint with Saints, he had only positive things to say about the Buddies.

He posted on Twitter: “Just like to say thank you to St Mirren Football Club for an enjoyable time since I’ve been at the club and also working with my team-mates who’ve come and gone as well as the players who are still there.

“What a great set of lads and also the people behind the scenes too.

“Also a massive thanks to the most important people, the fans. It’s been a hard season this year and not what everyone would have wanted.”
