A feisty opening saw three players booked with the hosts taking the lead on 16 minutes when Lewis Morgan sent over a driven low cross that was perfect for Calum Gallagher to flick home from four yards.

The Lions levelled four minutes from the break when Liam Buchanan combined with Danny Mullen before sending a lobbed effort home via a post.

Jim Goodwin, who had committed two further fouls after being cautioned, was withdrawn on 44 minutes as Saints manager Ian Murray feared a red card.

A minute later, a long throw from Myles Hippolyte was headed goalward by Ben Gordon and, after Jamie Langfield had saved, Mullen pounced to net.

It was all square at the break when Stephen Mallan curled home a free-kick from 25 yards.

The winner came six minutes from time when Ross Millen curled over a free-kick from the right that reached Gallagher at the far post, with the defender having time to chest the ball down and then drill home.

Mullen was red-carded in the last minute for a wild challenge on Jordan Stewart that saw the Saint carried off to make it ten versus ten in the eight minutes of injury time.
