St Johnstone’s David Robertson suffers leg break

ST JOHNSTONE midfielder David Robertson underwent surgery yesterday after the club confirmed he broke a leg during the match against Hibernian on Wednesday night. The incident happened towards the end of the game, won 1-0 by Hibs thanks to a Paul Cairney goal, when Robertson was involved in a block tackle.

“We knew straight away,” Robertson’s team-mate Murray Davidson said. “He was screaming and saying ‘it’s broken’ to the physio.

“I was right beside it, as I said, and I don’t think there was any malice in it. Two people went into the tackle, committed for the ball, and it’s just one of those things that happen. All our thoughts are with Robbo and we wish him a speedy recovery. “He’s worked hard and got back into the squad, scored a couple of goals for us. He’s had a tough time, because there’s a lot of competition for places, he’s got on to the bench, come on and then got this injury. I’m sure the boys will get round him and he’ll be back in working hard in the next couple of weeks.”

Davidson felt team-mate Dave Mackay had been unlucky to be sent off after making head contact with Hibs striker Leigh Griffiths.

“From speaking to Dave, I think Sparky (Griffiths) walked 15 yards,” Davidson said. “He’s made the first movement and Dave says he’s moved back – and he’s been sent off and Leigh’s not. They both went head to head. Who’s moving and what, you’d have to ask what the ref saw, or Dave or Sparky.”
