The Perth club don’t have a supporter database to keep track of who is, or isn’t, a St Johnstone supporter, therefore they have no way of identifying Celtic supporters attempting to buy tickets for the home end.

The agreement is in place with Police Scotland to reduce the risk of crowd trouble during the match if fans are not segregated.

It means St Johnstone fans who haven’t yet purchased a ticket for Saturday’s match will be unable to do so.

A statement on the official club website read: “With regards to admission to Saturday’s match against Celtic FC, the club wishes to advise all supporters that the last remaining tickets for the Celtic areas of the ground sold out late this afternoon and in line with the agreement in place with the Police and to maintain segregation, all ticket sales have therefore ceased.

“If you are not a St Johnstone FC season ticket holder or you have not already purchased a ticket for the game (St Johnstone or Celtic areas) then, regrettably, no further tickets are available and there will be no ‘walk up’ facility to either set of supporters on the day.”
