Spurs in talks with West Ham over move for Parker

Tottenham are in talks with West Ham over the potential transfer of midfielder Scott Parker, Hammers manager Sam Allardyce has confirmed.

Parker has made no secret of his desire to return to the Barclays Premier League to further his England career and Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is a keen admirer of the midfielder. Redknapp has been linked with a move for the former Chelsea man all summer and also failed with a bid to sign him last year but is determined to bring him to White Hart Lane this year, it appears.

With the transfer window closing on Wednesday night, Allardyce is keen to move on Parker in order to fund new signings. The former Blackburn manager confirmed talks had begun over a deal yesterday.

When asked whether negotiations were taking place between the two London clubs over a deal for the midfielder, Allardyce said: “I am not in talks [personally] with them but there is some dialogue going on at the moment. That is all I am aware of.”

Allardyce sounded a word of caution about the transfer though, perhaps well aware that Spurs are renowned as shrewd operators in the market.

“As in terms of what level it is at, I certainly know that a deal has not been struck by any way, shape or form at this moment in time about Scott Parker,” Allardyce added.

“Whether he is here on Wednesday depends on whether someone reaches the owners’ valuation.”
