SPL Fanzone: Motherwell

The churn rate of Motherwell managers has been a bit of an embarrassment of late. We’ve had four in the last four years and all have had some success.

But the team’s current league position suggests Stuart McCall is leading the rest as far as early form is concerned.

We have a very respectable 19 points from our ten SPL starts this season and enjoy second place in the table. At the same stage in previous seasons Craig Brown had us in third with 16 points, Jim Gannon had us fourth with 17 points while Mark McGhee’s best was fifth with 16 points.

After Saturday’s fixture at Easter Road the first cycle will be complete and an analysis will have greater weight but it’s already clear that, despite the financial restriction he faces, McCall has delivered a team that has performed beyond reasonable expectations.
