SPL Fanzone: Motherwell

THE SPL frequently receives criticism and it is fair to say the split is one of the things that divides fans about the league.

On one hand, the excitement generated can be completely manufactured – there is no real pleasure in finishing sixth rather seventh and playing the best teams can simply mean a miserable end to the campaign if there is no chance of Europe. But this season the split will deliver the kind of drama the bosses were imagining when they dreamt up the concept all those years ago.

Motherwell, St Johnstone, Dundee United and Hearts will battle it out in the coming weeks with one being rewarded with a Champions League place, two entering the Europa League and one, agonisingly, being left with nothing. Let’s hope these fascinating games are played out to full stadiums.
