LIVE Monday night football is set to return to our television screens this season – but for some hard-bitten supporters it means a long trek across the country after work to watch their team in the flesh.

The SPFL yesterday annnounced the latest list of fixtures which will be switched for TV viewing, and the schedule – which goes up to 25 November – includes three Monday night matches and one further Friday evening game.

Aberdeen and Partick Thistle fans have drawn the shortest straws, as they face journeys to St Mirren and Pittodrie on Monday 30 September and Monday 4 November respectively, while Rangers must head to Arbroath for their League One clash on Monday 25 November.

Ross County and Inverness supporters get off lightly, as the only Friday match will be the Highland derby on 25 October.

Meanwhile, Sky and BT Sport appear to be hedging their bets on Hearts’ chances of avoiding liquidation. The only switch involving the Tynecastle club is the first on the list – their home Premiership fixture against Celtic, which has been moved forward to lunchtime on Saturday 14 September.
