SPFL coronavirus investigation yet to decide on St Mirren and Kilmarnock postponed games

St Mirren must wait until the end of the month before they find out if they are to face punishment over last month's double coronavirus cancellations.

The Buddies were called before a Hampden hearing this week after being charged by the Scottish Professional Football League over the postponements of their Premiership clashes with Motherwell and Hamilton.

Both games were shelved after a Covid-19 outbreak at the Paisley club left boss Jim Goodwin unable to field a team.

Saints chiefs insist they did not break strict guidelines designed to curb the spread of the virus and made that clear as they appeared before disciplinary bosses.

But now they have revealed they will face a lengthy wait before learning the panel's decision.

A club statement said: "St Mirren Football Club can confirm that the SPFL's disciplinary hearing against the club has now concluded.

"The club has defended its position robustly and will be advised of the outcome which is expected at the end of this month.

"Whilst we await the outcome the club will make no further comment on this matter."

Kilmarnock also appeared before their own disciplinary hearing this week after their match with Motherwell last month was called off when Alex Dyer's entire first-team was ordered to quarantine.

The SPFL has already confirmed it will wait for the outcome of the hearings before announcing new dates for the postponed fixtures.

There remains the possibility they may not be played at all if Kilmarnock or St Mirren are found guilty and hit with a 3-0 defeat.
