Smith wary of Saints’ confidence

Dundee manager Barry Smith has challenged his players to stand up to in-form St Johnstone in tomorrow’s Tayside derby.

Steve Lomas’s side head for Dens Park buoyed by three wins on the trot which have lifted them off the foot of the SPL as well as clinching a place in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Communities League Cup

And Smith said: “The one thing St Johnstone will have coming into this game is confidence but it’s about what we
do. We think we can go and be positive at home and have a go.”

The Dark Blues are still seeking a first home win and Smith added: “A similar performance to the one we had against Motherwell will give us every chance of winning.

“Naturally we want to win our home games and give the fans something to cheer about but whether it’s at home or on the road, we just want the points as that’s the most important thing.”

Dundee are expecting a lively atmosphere when their Perth rivals roll up tomorrow so Smith wants his players to be spurred on by that.

He said: “There’s obviously a bit of edge to these games. It’s not quite the same as the Dundee derby but there might be a wee bit added atmosphere to it.”
