Six-goal Vale target ‘best of rest’ finish

Hutchison VALE LADIES
were in fine form at the
weekend when they thrashed hapless opponents Inverness City in the Highlands.

Goals from Laura Gavin (two), Kat Smart (two), Jen Malone and Tracy Donachie gave Hutchie a 6-2 victory and kept alive their dream of
finishing best of the rest.

Boss Ian McDonald now believes it is a straight shoot-out between his girls and Hamilton Academical to see who finishes top of the bottom six.

“We are playing well at the moment and the girls cannot wait for the Hamilton fixture to come round,” he said.

“It’s now down to us and them and our fixture against Hamilton in two weeks is shaping up to be a pivotal moment in both campaigns and should be a cracker.”

Elsewhere, Hibs Ladies beat Aberdeen 8-0 for the second time this season thanks to efforts from Kirsty Smith (two), Susan Fairlie (two), Caroline Weir, Joelle Murray, Lisa
Robertson and Rebecca Zoltie.

Manager Willie Kirk,
however, is baffled as to why his side have been taking until the second half to find their form in recent games.

“The first half was disappointing from our perspective,” he said. “We had a chat at half time, where we pointed a few things out to the girls, and we introduced some experience in the second half and thankfully we saw a big improvement.”

Meanwhile, Spartans were unable to arrest their slump in form when they lost 3-0 to
Celtic at Ainslie Park.

Abby Harrison, Suzanne Grant and Heather Richards were all on target for the Hoops as Spartans fell to their fifth consecutive defeat.
