Sir Alex Ferguson recovering after being taken to hospital before game
A source has indicated that the 84-year-old is “OK”, having sought precautionary medical attention
Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is understood to be recovering after being taken to hospital ahead of the match against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

A source has indicated that the 84-year-old Scot is “OK”, having sought precautionary medical attention ahead of the 3.30pm kick-off.
Ferguson, a regular attendee at matches both home and away, was pictured on social media meeting guests at the ground before he started feeling unwell.
It is understood he was initially assessed in the tunnel area of the ground before being transported to hospital.
United’s current head coach Michael Carrick, who played under Ferguson, admitted he had been personally impacted by the news before kick-off but hoped the 3-2 win over their arch-rivals had cheered his former boss.
“I haven’t got any updates so I don’t know the latest. I did hear about it before the game so I was aware about that,” he said.
“All I can say is I was very affected by it the news. I hope he is all right.
“We hope him to be in good shape and we wish him all the best and hopefully the result gives him a good boost.”
Sir Alex previously served as club ambassador after stepping down as manager in 2013. He enjoyed unprecedented success during a 27-year reign at Old Trafford, having previously guided Aberdeen to European Cup Winners’ Cup glory in 1983. He won 38 trophies at United, including 13 Premier League titles and two European Cups.
His wife, Lady Cathy Ferguson, sadly died in 2023 at the age of 84. She had been married to Sir Alex since 1966.
