Sheran is left stunned by Peterhead axe

Peterhead manager John Sheran was stunned by the club’s decision to sack him on the eve of today’s Third Division game with Queen’s Park. Sheran had spent all week preparing his side for the match unaware that the Balmoor club were going to oust him from the job after only six months in the hotseat.

Sheran said: “I was working until 9.30pm on Thursday night preparing the team and getting them in shape for Queen’s Park. I spoke to the press on Friday morning and went over our injuries and plans for the game. In football you should never be surprised but I am by this.”

The Blue Toon lie second from bottom of the Third Division after an ambitious summer of spending when they recruited almost an entire new squad including the much sought after striker Rory McAllister.

Chairman Rodger Morrison said: “After a disastrous start to the season where we exited the Ramsdens Cup and the Scottish Communities League Cup in the first round and five defeats in six league starts, decisive action was necessary.

“We are therefore announcing the departure of first team manager John Sheran and his coaching team.”
