GIlmour is still waiting for his first Serie A start under his former Chelsea boss Conte with four substitute appearances in the league although he played the full 90 minutes of the 5-0 cup win over Palermo.

"We're growing in terms of temperament, and in our ability to adapt - playing good football, but also willing to get our hands dirty when we need to. That's a great sign, and we have to embrace it fully."

Speaking of McTominay ahead of the match, Conte said: “Scott has goals in his blood, he’s very good at moving forward, has technique as well as height and physicality. He has in his DNA a good number of goals.”
