Second Division: All to play for on final day

The Second Division faces an exciting final Saturday with only the meeting of champions Queen of the South and the now relegated Albion Rovers having no impact on the remaining promotion and relegation play-off places.

Meanwhile, Arbroath, Forfar and Stenhousemuir remain in the hunt for a First Division place, whereas Stranraer and East Fife, who were on the brink of the result of the season at the weekend, have to battle it out to avoid the relegation play-offs.

East Fife were two goals ahead of title winners Queen of the South with three minutes left. However, the Doonhamers struck back to grab a 2-2 draw and that moved Billy Brown’s side from being in control of their destiny to a more perilous position.

Stevie Campbell put East Fife ahead nine minutes from half-time in the last ever game on Palmerston’s grass surface. Scott McBride missed the opportunity to increase their lead when his penalty was saved by Lee Robinson five minutes into the second half before Gareth Wardlaw made it two on 76 minutes.

Queens finally realised that they had a party to enjoy and Nicky Clark nodded in on 87 minutes before hitting goal number 40 of his season when he converted a Kevin Smith cross.

Clark’s double could prove costly for the New Bayview side as they are now second bottom, two points behind 
Stranraer going into their last game at home to Forfar.

Albion Rovers’ 4-1 defeat by Alloa saw them relegated with Kevin Cawley (2), Stephen Simmons and Jonathan Tiffoney netting while Pat Walker replied.

Arbroath are now in pole position in the play-off chase with Euan Smith’s winner in the 1-0 success at Ayr edging them a point ahead of Forfar who won 3-0 at Stranraer thanks to a Frank 
McKeown own goal and strikes by Chris Templeman and Omar Kader.

Finally, Stenhousemuir still have an outside promotion chance thanks to their 2-1 success at Brechin where David Rowson and Jamie Reid had the Warriors two up before Alan Trouten pulled a goal back.
