The former Liverpool full-back caught his opponent with an elbow as Celtic were about to take a corner minutes into the second half of Rangers’ 2-0 victory.

Though referee Kevin Clancy produced a yellow card at the time, the SFA compliance officer has decided there is a case to answer.

A hearing will take place on Thursday with Flanagan set to miss the clash with Kilmarnock and the first match of next season if the decision is upheld.

Rangers have had 12 players sent off this season, while Allan McGregor was also banned retrospectively.
