How to watch Rangers, Hearts, Hibs and Motherwell European third round qualifier draws and possible opponents
Here’s the type of challenges that could await Hearts and Hibs in the next round of European competition.
Scottish Premiership quartet Hearts, Rangers, Hibs and Motherwell are about to find out who comes next in Europe across the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League.
The Jambos will sound the starting klaxon on Scottish clubs on the continent this season when they take on Austrian outfit Sturm Graz in their second round qualifier first leg at Europe’s top table on July 21. Then Hibs take on Malisheva of Kosovo on the afternoon of July 23 away from home, and Motherwell host Faroese club HB Torshavn at Fir Park, second legs taking place seven days later after match one.
Rangers aren’t in action in the second round and will enter the Europa League as a seeded side at the third qualifying round. Those ties will be picked on late Monday morning and early afternoon with Hearts keeping an eye on both the Champions League and Europa League draws. It’s win or bust for Hibs and Motherwell though in the Conference, who like Hearts, will be unseeded in their draw. They are available to watch and here’s all the details you need to know.
When are the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League third round qualifying draws?
The Champions League, Europa League and Conference League third round qualifying draws take place on Monday, July 20. It begins with the Champions League at 11am and works through to the Europa at noon and Conference at 1pm. The draws take place in Nyon, Switzerland.
Can I watch Champions League, Europa League and Conference League third round qualifying draws?
Yes. They are not broadcast on TV but all of them can be streamed via the UEFA website or their YouTube channel.
Who could Rangers, Hearts, Hibs and Motherwell face in Champions League, Europa League and Conference League qualifying?
Seedings, groupings and the procedure will not be totally finalised until 8:30am on the morning of the draw. Looking at who Hearts could play in the event of a win against Sturm Graz, whoever comes out this tie, they are likely to be unseeded. It means Hearts could face Lyon, Bodo/Glimt, Olympiacos or Fenerbahce in the next round of the competition.
Rangers will be seeded in the Europa League. They will be made to wait to see who comes through the Europa League second qualifying round and who drops down from the Champions League. They can’t draw Hearts but Sturm Graz could come into their path if the Jambos upset seedings in the competition above. Then it will be eyes on Fenerbahce vs Górnik Zabrze in the other UCL tie alongside second round Europa meetings such as; FC Sheriff Tiraspol (MDA) vs Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC (ISR), Hammarby IF (SWE) vs RSC Anderlecht (BEL), HNK Hajduk Split (CRO) vs Pafos FC (CYP), Tromso IL (NOR) vs Hradec Kralove (CZE)
Hibs and Motherwell would also likely be unseeded if they are to get through their ties with Malisheva and HV Torshavn. Braga, Ajax and Copenhagen are the type of clubs that could await in the third round if they make it.
