His downward header from Liam Craig's corner in the 122nd minute at Ibrox may well have been heading into the net before it was knocked home by team mate Chris Kane, the final touch robbing the Saints stopper of a place in the history books as one of a select few goalkeepers to have scored a goal in a senior match.
Remarkably, had Clark’s header gone straight in, he would not have been the first St Johnstone goalkeeper to have achieved such a feat in recent times, with Matt Glennon finding the net for the Perth side in similar circumstances back in 2010.
Scottish football has examples of goalkeepers who have scored after coming up for corners, from the penalty spot, or from huge kick-outs that have bounced into the opposition net. One goalkeeper even managed to find the net after being played outfield from the start!
Here are a selection of goalkeepers who achieved what Clark so nearly did at Ibrox on Sunday.
