Scottish first division: Goal-hungry Dundee steal limelight from soaring Ross County

Ross County’s SPL promotion push remained on track with a 4-2 win over Raith Rovers.

However, the performance of the weekend came from Dundee in a 6-1 win away at Hamilton Accies.

Striker Steven Milne led the way for the visitors when he tapped home on 21 minutes after keeper David Hutton dropped a Stephen O’Donnell cross.

It was two 16 minutes later, when Milne chipped over Hutton, and three before half-time when O’Donnell netted.

Milne completed his hat-trick, putting away a Jake Hyde rebound. Nicky Riley made it five and Gavin Rae scored the sixth. Dougie Imrie grabbed a late consolation for Accies.

Dundee manager Barry Smith said: “Good results breed confidence, and we will keep doing what we have been doing and see where that takes us.”

Hamilton manager Billy Reid said: “It was a bad day at the office, and I have to admit that we are a bit fragile at the moment.”

In Dingwall, County fell behind twice to Allan Walker goals. However, Rocco Quinn and then Colin McMenamin had the game tied at half-time.

McMenamin headed his side in front for the first time just after the hour, and Michael Gardyne secured the win with a fierce 25-yard shot nine minutes from time.

Falkirk remain in second place after a 1-0 home success over Morton, with Farid El Alagui scoring the game’s only goal 13 minutes into the second- half when he beat goalkeeper Dominic Cervi to the ball in an aerial challenge.

The result was hard on the visitors, who were denied by home goalkeeper Michael McGovern on several occasions and by the woodwork with 10 minutes left when Archie Campbell’s effort came back off a post.

Partick Thistle defeated visitors Livingston 2-1, with Lions striker Kenny Deuchar scoring at both ends in the first half.

Thistle’s Conrad Balatoni hooked home a Paul Cairney corner on 27 minutes. Six minutes later, Deuchar headed another Thistle corner into his own net.

The striker made amends right on half-time but Livingston could not force a leveller in the second-half.

Queen of the South moved off bottom spot and above opponents Ayr United with a 4-1 success at Palmerston.

Stephen McKenna and Gareth Wardlaw exchanged goals in the first-half, with the match turning the way of the Doonhamers when Eddie Malone was dismissed for fouling Nicky Clark in the box.

Scott McLaughlin netted the spot-kick. Daniel Carmichael scored a third and Stephen Simmons wrapped things up with a late fourth.
