Warburton: I’m going nowhere, no club has approached me

Mark Warburton took to Twitter last night to pledge his future to the Ibrox club amid increasing speculation that Fulham were ready to make a move for the Rangers manager.

Warburton insisted he had no intention of leaving and hit out at “shockingly incorrect” reporting in the media.

Despite his protestations the Englishman remains odds-on favourite with several bookmakers to be Fulham’s next manager. And The Scotsman has learned that Warburton is being discussed as a potential successor to Kit Symons by the powerbrokers at Craven Cottage.

In a series of tweets, Warburton said: “Both bemused and frustrated by shockingly incorrect stories from certain media outlets.

“I am going nowhere and no club has approached me. Such stories are incorrect and disrespectful to me, to Rangers and to the supposed interested party which in this case is Fulham. Appalling. Why are such stories are released without any sensible investigation? Rangers fans, Rangers as a club and indeed Fulham deserve better.”

Warburton had fielded questions on the Craven Cottage link after Tuesday’s win over Dumbarton but new reports emerged yesterday evening which claimed Rangers were aware of interest from Fulham.

The Ibrox club were reported to be poised to offer Warburton more money for himself and for transfer activity in January amid concerns he could be tempted back to London where his family is understood to be still based. Prior to taking over at Rangers Warburton was manager of Brentford.

Fulham sacked Symons last month and are searching for their fifth manager in a little over two years. They have been turned down by both Steve Clarke of Reading and Gary Rowett of Birmingham City in recent weeks.

Former Celtic midfielder Peter Grant is in caretaker charge of the west London club, who sit 13th in the Sky Bet Championship but still harbour aspirations of reaching the play-offs and returning to the Premiership after a two-year absence.
