Mike Ashley wins battle for Rangers voting rights

MIKE ASHLEY has succeeded in his bid to prevent Rangers from asking shareholders to block his voting rights in the Ibrox club.

The Newcastle United and Sports Direct owner was granted an interim interdict by the Court of Session, forcing Rangers to remove a resolution from this Friday’s annual general meeting which, if passed, would have removed voting rights from any shareholder involved in the management of administration of another club.

Rangers and Ashley, who has a stake of just under nine per cent in the Scottish Championship leaders, were both previously fined by the SFA for breach of dual interest regulations.

Ashley failed in his attempt to remove two other resolutions from this week’s agm which, if passed, will give Rangers chairman Dave King and his fellow directors the authority to allot new shares in the company.
