Scotland v England friendly: 26 arrests made

Police Scotland said the majority of the arrests were for minor anti-social behaviour offences, with seven arrests made within the stadium.

Ahead of the fixture the force had warned of intelligence suggesting hooligans intended travelling to Glasgow for the first meeting of the sides in Scotland since 1999.

However, police said the match had passed off “very peaceably”.

Following the match, the English FA apologised for a small number of fans who took part in anti-IRA singing.

It emerged the FA had contacted the England supporters’ band at half-time to stop playing when it inadvertently provided background music to the chanting.

Manager Roy Hodgson said: “I didn’t have a clue what they were chanting.

“If anyone was offended, I’m sure the FA would like to apologise to them.”
