Scotland v Canada: A brief history
1992 Toronto: The second of three warm-up games in the lead-up to Euro 1992 in Sweden, with Andy Roxburgh’s side beating the hosts 3-1 in Toronto. Gary McAllister scored the opener, before John Catliff equalised. Ally McCoist scored Scotland’s second before a penalty from McAllister secured the win. It was the Scots’ last victory until the final group game 3-0 win against CIS, following 1-0 and 2-0 defeats to Holland and Germany respectively.
2002 at Easter Road: Berti Vogts was in charge of Scotland for the first visit of Canada to Scottish soil. The much-changed side from the 2-0 win against Iceland in a Euro 2004 qualifier fell behind within ten minutes to a spot-kick by Dwayne de Rosario. Scotland weren’t behind for long, with a goal from Dunfermline striker Stevie Crawford two minutes later. Steven Thompson put Vogts’ side ahead on the 50th minute, before Crawford scored his second and Scotland’s third, above, to wrap up the victory.
