Scottish Ebola nurse hospitalised after falling ill


Pauline Cafferkey, the Scottish nurse who contracted Ebola while helping to tackle the disease in Sierra Leone, has been taken to hospital in London after falling ill again.

Scotland’s Chief Medical Officer Catherine Calderwood reassured the public that the risk of contagion is low.

Ex-PoW camp to become self-catering holiday homes

Ten B-listed nissen huts that once held World War II prisoners at Cultybraggan Camp, near Comrie in Perthshire, are to be turned self-catering and bunkhouse accommodation.

Built in 1939, the so-called “Black Camp of the North” held up to 4000 German prisoners at a time, many of them the toughest Afrika Korps and SS troops.

The £697,000 project is estimated to increase visitor numbers to the area to over 15,000 after five years creating the equivalent of 20 full time jobs and boosting the local economy by up to £2 million.

Glasgow Airport beats Edinburgh to be named ‘Uk Airport of the Year’

The airport, which is Scotland’s second busiest, joins past winners Heathrow Terminal Five, Gatwick and Birmingham.

It has trailed Edinburgh in passenger numbers since 2007 but is now growing faster, with passenger numbers by 11 per cent to 8.4 million in the year to August.

‘Monkey drive-through’ opens at Blair Drummond Safari Park

Visitors can now get up close and personal with a troop of 30 Barbary macaques at the park near Stirling.

Park manager Gary Gilmour said: “The macaques are very inquisitive and will investigate novel items.

“For those not brave enough to take a car through, we have a bypass in place and you can see the macaques through the viewing windows of their building.”

Gordon Strachan silent on Scotland management future

Gordon Strachan last night refused to commit himself to another qualifying campaign with Scotland after seeing his bid to reach the Euro 2016 finals dramatically ended by a stoppage-time goal from Polish striker Robert Lewandowski at Hampden.

“To talk about me is all wrong. I’ll leave that to other people. I have people hurting in this building at the moment and I need to look after them.”
