SNOW WARNING FOR FRIDAY

A yellow warning for snow has been issued for Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray, with up to four centimetres expected to fall.

The snow will mainly affect high ground at first but will fall to lower levels on Friday night. One to four centimetres is likely at some lower levels but with five to 10 above 150m, with drifting in the strong to gale force north or northwesterly winds.

SNP UNDER ATTACK OVER CHILDCARE PROMISE

Education secretary Angela Constance has been attacked by a parents group for failing to provide answers on the Scottish Government’s ambitious childcare promises.

Jenny Gorevan, of Fair Funding For Our Kids (Glasgow), said: “The First Minister is right to put childcare at the heart of next year’s elections. But right now the Scottish Government says it guarantees 600 free hours childcare per year to every three and four-year old and we estimate as many as one in five kids are missing out. How will the First Minister deliver this new, bigger promise if she cannot even give children what they are entitled to now?”

COUNCIL AGREES TO EXTEND EDINBURGH TRAMS LINE

COUNCILLORS in Edinburgh have agreed in principle to extending Edinburgh’s tram line to Leith at a cost of £162 million. Taking the trams down Leith Walk to Newhaven will be partly financed by £25 million dividend cash from publicly-owned Lothian Buses.

Council Leader, Councillor Andrew Burns, said: “I am pleased we have been able to find a way forward for the project, which would deliver a range of key benefits in terms of economic growth, greater accessibility and the environment for Leith and the city as a whole.”

DAVID CAMERON TO GET ‘MINISTERIAL PLANE’

Cameron and other senior ministers are to get a dedicated aircraft to take them on official visits around the world.

Ministers will argue that the use of the A330 Voyager will save hundreds of thousands of pounds a year in charter costs hiring airliners from commercial carriers.

But the move is likely to prove highly controversial as Chancellor George Osborne prepares to unveil further deep cuts in next week’s spending review.

AYR UNITED FACE LEGAL ACTION OVER CLUB CREST

Ayr United are accused of breaking a law which dates back to King Charles II because their crest is deemed to be an unregistered coat of arms.

The Scottish League One leaders’ badge is a shield with scroll bearing the team’s name along with a saltire - all of which fall foul of the ancient legislation.

It is understood that the legal threat is the result of a complaint by a rival team’s fan to the ancient Court of Lord Lyon.
