The Bosnia international signed from FK Austria at the start of the 2006/07 season and has become an integral member of the side which won a third successive SPL title this season in Walter Smith's last campaign as boss.

The 31-year-old left-back's current deal was due to expire this summer, but now he will be part of the new regime under Ally McCoist, Smith's successor as boss, and new owner Craig Whyte.

Papac was one of three players signed from FK Austria five years ago, but is the only signing made by Paul Le Guen, Smith's predecessor as boss, still plying his trade at Ibrox.

He has now made more than 150 appearances for Rangers and this season added to his trophy haul with the Co-operative Insurance Cup triumph and the SPL title success, which was secured on Sunday.

A statement on Rangers' official website read: "Sasa Papac has shown his passion for Rangers by putting pen-to-paper on a new one-year deal at Murray Park this morning.

"The news will be a big boost for Ally McCoist who has always stated his admiration for the Bosnian who was a hugely consistent performer during Walter Smith's second spell in charge of the Light Blues."
