Waghorn ‘could face Celtic’

RANGERS striker Martyn Waghorn reckons he’s in with a shout of facing Celtic at Hampden on Sunday.

The ex-Wigan striker, who was ruled out of the Old Firm clash by manager Mark Warburton, told Sky Sports that he thinks he mighe be fit enough to play a part in the semi final.

Waghorn has netted 28 goals in 34 games for the Gers. (Sky Sports)

Roberts happy to stay at Parkhead

PATRICK Roberts has told incoming Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola that he is happy at Celtic and wants to see out his loan deal.

He said: “I felt 18 months is good as you get the chance to qualify for the Champions League and the chances to win leagues and cups, and that’s what you want to be doing, playing at the highest level in the world.

“It’s much better than sitting around. You want to be playing. I’m here for the 18 months and I’m a Celtic player, and what [Guardiola] does will be for himself and City.” (Various)

Kilmarnock fans blast club over Old Firm screening

ENRAGED Killie fans have slammed the club - after a tweet from the official account revealed the Old Firm semi final clash would be shown live at Rugby Park’s Sports Bar.

Fans of the Ayrshire club vented their fury on Twitter, with one writing: “What a PR disaster! We’ve struggled to score goals on the park but that’s a howler of an [own goal]!”

Another added: “Embarrassing! One of the biggest games of OUR season last Saturday & not a peep out the club beforehand. Now this? Disgrace!” (Scottish Sun)

Lustig: We’re fighting for our future

CELTIC defender Mikael Lustig has said that it’s not just Ronny Deila who is under scrutiny - it’s the players as well.

The Swede said in the lead-up to Sunday’s semi final clash with Rangers: “If we do not do well then maybe next season we are not here. They maybe take someone else in. It’s all the staff [who are under scrutiny].

“If we can have a strong finish now and win the league and if we can win a cup now as well, suddenly it feels like the season was not that bad at all.” (The Scotsman)

MacLeod tells Rangers to consign bitterness to the past

FORMER Celtic midfielder Murdo MacLeod has urged Rangers to leave any sense of bitterness over events in 2012 in the past.

MacLeod said: “If in ten years’ time Rangers have gone on and won titles, then everything else will be in the past and they’ll not talk about that again. Everybody has got to move on and just get on with it.”

His comments came in the wake of former Rangers manager Walter Smith claiming that no one associated with Rangers would ever forget what happened to the club. (The Scotsman)

Boruc admits arrogance cost him big move

FORMER Celtic goalie Artur Boruc has admitted that he scuppered any big-money move - because he was arrogant and greedy.

The Polish ‘keeper, currently at Bournemouth, was linked with the likes of Arsenal and Barcelona at the height of his career, but nothing materialised.

And the 36-year-old admitted: “I could’ve signed for one of the big clubs, but because of my carelessness, arrogance and greed at points of my life, nothing happened.

“I have no regrets but I am a changed man and work harder on my fitness. Even on holiday I try to keep fit.” (Daily Record)

Forrester to miss Old Firm clash

RANGERS ace Harry Forrester has been dealt a blow with the news he will not face Celtic after sustaining a hairline fracture.

Forrester’s injury means Rangers are without Michael O’Halloran and Billy King, and could also have to face their rivals without Martyn Waghorn. (Various)

Topping fires warning to BBC

SPFL chairman Ralph Topping has warned the BBC that clubs will pull the plug on TV highlights and live radio broadcasting rights to top flight games unless the corporation increases its contract offer.

Talks between the BBC and the SPFL are continuing but with no light at the end of the tunnel with both parties at odds over what the corporation should pay for TV highlights, radio and online rights from next season.

Topping has said the BBC will have to more than double the present deal from £1.4 million to between £3 million and £4 million. (The Times)
