Watt: My future is at Celtic

TONY Watt reckons he’s been written off by critics as he insisted yesterday that his future lies with Celtic.

The 20-year-old was handed a start against German outfit St Pauli over the weekend but a second-string Hoops side lost thanks to a Christophe Nothe goal.

And after a season-long loan at Lierse in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League, Watt has been linked with a £1.2 million move to Standard Liege.

The former Airdrie youngster - who has admitted a fondness for fast food in the past - told the Daily Record: “I want to play for Celtic. Maybe the happiest moment of my life was making my debut for the club. I am a supporter and had achieved a target in my life.

“It was good to play in the Champions League and beat Barca but I want to play for Celtic for a long time. It’s just that nobody seems to realise that. This is the club for me.

“If the club don’t want me then I will need to look elsewhere but I am not interested in going anywhere just now.”(Daily Record)

Burnley join Ambrose race

ENGLISH Premier League new boys Burnley are reportedly eyeing a move for Efe Ambrose.

The Nigerian defender, who featured at the World Cup, was the subject of interest from Crystal Palace and Leicester, but the Clarets could now be in pole position to tempt the 25-year-old south. (Various)

Celtic braced for bids

CELTIC are also steeling themselves from a double bid from Southampton for goalkeeper Fraser Forster and Dutch stopper Virgil van Dijk.

The Saints had a bid for Forster knocked back last week, but the sale of Dejan Lovren to Liverpool could give them more money to play with. (Various)

Lunov joins Hoops as first-team coach

RONNY Deila has brought in Haakon Lunov as first-team coach at Celtic.

The 31-year-old has spent time studying Science and Football at John Moores University in Liverpool and worked on video analysis for Everton.

Oxley close to Hibs deal

HULL City goalkeeper Mark Oxley looks set to sign a deal with Hibernian, expected to be a season-long loan.

Oxley, who is effectively the fourth-choice ‘keeper at the Tigers, played over 40 games for Oldham last season, and featured in Hibernian’s 1-0 loss to Dundee United yesterday.

The 23-year-old had a relatively comfortable game, and could do nothing about Chris Erskine’s winner 13 minutes from time.

“I told you all along that I would have one in place, it was just a matter of me getting the right one,” Hibs head coach Alan Stubbs said. “Some people panic but it’s not my style. I knew what I wanted and I said all along that if it meant me waiting then I would wait for the right one. I feel as if I’ve got the right one.” (The Scotsman)

Rangers board ‘won’t sell Ibrox’

THE Rangers board has reiterated that it has no plans to sell Ibrox, in a statement posted on the club’s website, rangers.co.uk.

The 200-word statement insisted that the board were confirming that ‘it will not enter into any form of sale, securitisation or leaseback of Ibrox Stadium’.

However, there is no mention of Murray Park in the statement, which comes after 1,000 Rangers fans marched to the stadium last weekend to demand protection of Ibrox. (The Scotsman)
